Scott Winkler To Run For Legislature In Omaha’s District 18

This morning (Dec. 28), Scott Winkler announced he will seek election to serve the 18th District in the Nebraska State Legislature. Winkler, a long time Omaha resident and previous Accounting Manager for the City of Omaha Finance Department made the following statements in his release today.

“I’m running for the Legislature to work on providing equal opportunity to better jobs, education and healthcare for the people of my district, and all Nebraska families,” said Winkler. “I believe every family should have fair access and the tools they need to be able to live the ‘Good Life’ in Nebraska.”

Scott Winkler has had a dedicated career in public service as a city employee, while also playing an important role as a community leader. Winkler has been recognized throughout the community of Omaha, as a passionate volunteer and activist, and strong advocate for anti-discrimination and inclusivity issues.

“Working for stronger public education, investment in the jobs of tomorrow, and responsible tax relief will be my top priority,” said Winkler. “and we must create a better environment in our state to promote economic development and provide more families and small businesses the necessary resources for their success.”

Winkler earned a solid reputation as a fiscally responsible manager, while overseeing accounting operations for the City of Omaha Finance Department. While there he contributed to continued budget surpluses throughout his time in the department.

“I will be an independent leader with a vision to provide more opportunities for our middle class families and the most vulnerable,” stated Winkler. “Smart budgeting, the value of hard work, and what is most important for Nebraska’s families will guide my work and service everyday in the Nebraska Legislature.”

Scott Winkler was born and raised in Loomis, Nebraska, then graduated from the University of Nebraska with a Bachelor’s degree in accounting and continued earning his Master’s degree in Management. Scott has lived in Omaha for 25 years, where he has enjoyed several years of community activism serving on the board of Inclusive Communities, Citizens for Equal Protection, and was appointed to the Omaha Police Department committee with responsibility to administer a federal grant for hate crimes education.

Winkler will be holding a Campaign Kick-off Event on Thursday, January 18th, 2017 from 5:30pm-7:00pm in Legislative District 18, at La Mesa Restaurant located at 11002 Emmet Street Suite 112,Omaha.
