On Tuesday, Nebraska voters saw the disadvantages of a large number of primary candidates, as a small, extremist minority, funded by out of state tea party darlings, were able to win the Senate and Gubernatorial nominations– despite record low vote totals.<\/p>\n
“Almost 75% of Nebraska Republicans rejected Pete Ricketts, but he took the nomination with the lowest percentage of primary votes in 100 years,” said Dan Marvin, ED of the NE Democratic Party.<\/p>\n
Both Pete Ricketts and Ben Sasse brought in the big guns in the final weeks leading up to the primary– with Sarah Palin, Ted Cruz, and a host of other radicals with no interest in Nebraska’s future.<\/p>\n
Even Senator Johanns noted, when the big out of state dollars come in to buy an election for a candidates, they “play for keeps.”<\/p>\n
“These are not the candidates Nebraskans want to run our state, they are not representative of Nebraska values, and they are being forced on us by out of state money with an out of state agenda. Nebraska Republicans got the short end of the stick, with a sliver of the electorate and national groups buying their way into the general. A majority of Republicans rejected outside tea party extremism in the primary, and we expect that will be the case in the November general election as well.”<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
