By\u00a0now, most of us have heard about the latest Republican gaffe — this one committed by Texas Sen. Ted \u201cLook at my cool Civil War general beard\u201d Cruz.<\/p>\n

It seems that Cruz, as millions of his fellow Texans were suffering from extremely cold weather and widespread power outages impacted by years of elected officials ignoring climate change, decided to jet down to Cancun, Mexico, for a little down time.<\/p>\n

This was not lost on The New Yorker\u2019s\u00a0Andy Borowitz<\/strong><\/a>:<\/strong><\/p>\n

Senator Ted Cruz made a top-secret trip on Wednesday to investigate whether Mexico illegally stole heat and sunshine from his home state of Texas.<\/em><\/p>\n

Cruz said that he undertook the dangerous heat-finding mission because he cares deeply about the current suffering of his fellow-Texans.<\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cThe temperature in Canc\u00fan is an unacceptable fifty degrees warmer than in Houston,\u201d Cruz said. \u201cIt\u2019s so warm here on the beach that I\u2019ve had to wear a swimsuit and periodically douse myself in the ocean. It is an absolute disgrace, and it will not stand.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cI intend to stay here until I get to the bottom of how Mexico managed to steal all of this heat and sun from Texas,\u201d he said. \u201cI don\u2019t care how long it takes.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

News of Cruz\u2019s trip caused members of Mexico\u2019s Senate to call for the building of a wall along the border with the United States, because, in the words of one lawmaker, \u201cThey\u2019re not sending their best.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

Nebraskans have been hit hard by the COVID-19 crisis. Our governor should be doing everything he can to get more shots in more Nebraskans\u2019 arms, especially those people with critical jobs and professions like our public school teachers.<\/p>\n

Right now, Nebraska is one of the worst-ranked states in vaccinations.<\/p>\n

The Nebraska Democratic Party is conducting a\u00a01-question-poll<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0in order to gauge what people all over the state think about Gov. Ricketts\u2019 leadership throughout the COVID-19 crisis.<\/p>\n

The Republicans have launched an attack on our voting process in Nebraska at the Legislature.<\/p>\n

As\u00a0reported by the Omaha World-Herald,<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0state Sen. Julie Slama has introduced bills requiring voters to show ID in order to cast a ballot and another measure to change the way Nebraska allocates its five Electoral College votes \u2014 which helped President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris win the White House<\/p>\n

Both measures had hearings this week before the Government, Military and Veterans Affairs Committee.<\/p>\n
