With a trade war caused by President Trump\u2019s tariffs escalating, Sen. Deb Fischer admits she has ignored proposed legislation that would nullify tariffs on steel and aluminum that would help Nebraska\u2019s struggling farmers and ranchers.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/b>In fact, Fischer said during an interview with the\u00a0Nebraska Radio Network<\/a>\u00a0that she hadn\u2019t even read the bill, which was introduced by Republican Sen. Jeff Flake of Arizona and Democrat Heidi Heitkamp of North Dakota: \u201cA number of bills are introduced every year,\u201d Fischer said. \u201cI haven\u2019t had Senator Flake approach me to visit with me about that bill either, so I don\u2019t know how serious he is about pushing it forward.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/b>Nebraska Democratic Party Chair Jane Kleeb said: \u201cThat is an odd response, since Flake urged his Senate colleagues to support the measure in a\u00a0speech on the Senate floor<\/a>. Nebraskans are left to wonder, does Senator Fischer spend her time in Washington waiting around to be told by her colleagues what to do?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/b>\u201cDeb Fischer continues to sleep-walk through her time in the Senate,\u201d Kleeb said. \u201cNebraskans deserve someone who will work for them, not someone who is ignoring their plight.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/b>Trump imposed tariffs of 25 percent on steel and 10 percent on aluminum in a move mainly aimed at curbing imports from China. Throughout Nebraska and the rest of farm country, those tariffs are boosting costs for equipment and infrastructure and causing some farmers and agricultural firms to scrap purchases and expansion plans,\u00a0according to Reuters<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/b>But perhaps Fischer not reading Flake\u2019s bill should come as no surprise.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/b>\u201cShe told the\u00a0\u0623\u0648\u0645\u0627\u0647\u0627 \u0648\u0648\u0631\u0644\u062f \u0647\u064a\u0631\u0627\u0644\u062f<\/a>\u00a0that she did not even know there was an open seat on the Senate Agriculture Committee before she joined the group,\u201d Kleeb said.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/b>Fischer remains out of touch with how to be effective for Nebraska\u2019s farmers and ranchers. Fischer continues to fail Nebraskans. Fischer has shown yet again she\u2019s content with going through the motions while not doing the job she was elected to do.<\/p>\n
