There has been no serial exaggerator in recent American politics like the president. He not only consistently makes false claims but also repeats them, even though they have been proved wrong.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cThe explosion of false and misleading statements from him in 2018 is well documented in our database: In the seven weeks leading up the midterm elections, the president made 1,419 false or misleading claims \u2014 an average of 30 a day. We also created the Bottomless Pinocchio, to document false claims repeated over and over again.\u201d<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">That, folks, is the truth.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>***<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The past week was full of big news (much of it bad) &#8212; again dominated by President Trump.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Leading the way was the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.apnews.com\/d6dbb8b02a4446f6800de794b45523e6\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>sentencing of Trump\u2019s former personal and \u201cfixer\u201d \u00a0Michael Cohen,<\/strong><\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> who was ordered to serve three years in federal prison after pleading guilty <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">to a slew of crimes, including lying about his boss\u2019 business dealings in Russia and funneling hush money to two women who said they had sex with Trump &#8212; payments that Cohen said were made at the president\u2019s direction.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Meanwhile, Special Counsel Robert Mueller III\u2019s investigation into possible influence by Russia into the 2016 presidential election chugs along.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Courtesy of the DNC, here\u2019s a \u201cBy-the-Numbers\u201d for the Mueller investigation so far, but who&#8217;s counting?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8212; Over 100 criminal counts, so far.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8212; 33 people and 3 companies have been indicted.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8212; 16 Trump associates, including family members and senior aides, had contact with Russians during the campaign or transition despite Trump\u2019s denials.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8212; 5 members of Trump\u2019s inner circle have pleaded guilty.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8212; 3 Trump associates are still awaiting their sentences.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8212; Trump\u2019s former campaign manager is in custody awaiting his sentence.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8212; Trump\u2019s former deputy campaign manager is awaiting his sentence.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8212; Trump\u2019s former national security advisory will be sentenced next week.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8212; 2 Trump associates have now been sentenced to serve jail time.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8212; Trump\u2019s personal lawyer was sentenced to serve 3 years in jail.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8212; Trump\u2019s former foreign policy advisor already served 14 days in jail.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>***<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The week offered us a glimpse into 2019, when the Democrat-controlled House will certainly begin the long-overdue push back against Trump and his reckless policies.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cConsider the president\u2019s made-for-television argument Tuesday with House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi and Senate Minority Leader Charles E. Schumer: It showed just how much Trump wants to make his expected re-election bid about immigration \u2014 he even seemed excited about a government shutdown over the issue,\u201d <\/span><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollcall.com\/news\/politics\/trumps-action-packed-week-previews-a-wild-new-year-ahead\">wrote Roll Call\u2019s John T. Bennett.<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u201cI am proud to shutdown the government for border security, Chuck, because the people of this country don\u2019t want criminals and people that have lots of problems and drugs pouring into our country,\u201d Trump told Schumer. \u201cSo I will take the mantle. I will be the one to shut it down. I\u2019m not going to blame you for it.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>***<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Meanwhile in Nebraska, state lawmakers are ramping up for the 2019 legislative session, where Medicaid expansion approved by voters in the November election will take center stage as a new, two-year state budget is crafted.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Medicaid expansion will cover adults with incomes up to 138 percent of the federal poverty line ($17,000 for a single person and $29,000 for a household of three) and provide health insurance coverage to some 90,000 additional Nebraskans. Nebraska\u2019s share of the cost of Medicaid expansion will cost $60 million a year when fully in place.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Republican Gov. Pete Ricketts, who opposed Medicaid expansion, will likely get push-back from lawmakers if he proposes paying for the expansion by cutting other programs.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Democratic Sen. Adam Morfeld, a leading supporter of Medicaid expansion,\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/netnebraska.org\/article\/news\/1155539\/medicaid-expansion-could-provoke-state-budget-fight\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>told NET News<\/strong><\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> that he will fight any cuts.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cI will oppose any attempt to cut other programs in order to expand Medicaid,\u201d Morfeld said. \u201cI think the folks that want property tax relief are going to be looking at generating new income to be able to provide for that relief. And if they want to provide for that relief, they\u2019re going to have to designate some of that income towards for other people\u2019s priorities as well. In the end, we\u2019re going to balance the budget and Medicaid expansion\u2019s going to save us more money than we\u2019re spending in the long run.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Hold on.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>***<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In closing, a shout-out to Morfeld and fellow Sen. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Anna Wishart, who launched a campaign committee called \u201cNebraskans for Sensible Marijuana Laws\u201d to put a proposed constitutional amendment legalizing medical marijuana on the 2020 ballot.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Wishart told the <\/span><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/journalstar.com\/news\/state-and-regional\/govt-and-politics\/nebraska-senators-launch-medical-marijuana-legalization-ballot-campaign\/article_e3e2478a-6b70-54ea-8cdd-407761951417.html\">\u0644\u064a\u0646\u0643\u0648\u0644\u0646 \u062c\u0648\u0631\u0646\u0627\u0644 \u0633\u062a\u0627\u0631<\/a><\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> that the the campaign committee will expand the discussion for the constitutional amendment and get feedback from Nebraskans on other areas, such as decriminalization. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8220;But, again, the priority is medical and the key is that we are going to put something on the ballot that has wide support by Nebraskans,&#8221; she said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">###<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp; No rest for the weary: Lincoln city elections are in 2019.
