Ashford wants Congressional pay cut until balanced budget is achieved<\/a><\/p>\nThe Democratic candidate for Nebraska’s Second Congressional District says Congress should take a pay cut until a balanced budget is passed.<\/p>\n
Brad Ashford says if he’s elected, he’ll introduce a bill requiring lawmakers to take a 10 percent pay cut until there’s a balanced budget.<\/p>\n
“At the very least, we shouldn’t raise salaries in Congress until we balance the budget. That’s my pledge. And I’ll take a ten percent pay cut until such time as we balance the budget.”<\/p>\n
Ashford says he also wants to end pensions for Congressmen who become lobbyists after serving in the House or Senate. Another proposal would end pay checks for lawmakers during a government shutdown.<\/p>\n
Kent Grisham, a spokesman for Congressman Terry’s campaign, says the campaign is “dismayed by an early negative approach and distortions.”<\/p>\n
