Yet, despite the outcry from Nebraskans who deeply support public education, Fischer voted to confirm DeVos. Fischer told Nebraskans she would vote how Nebraskans wanted her to and yet again Fischer voted to put her Party over the people.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Since DeVos\u2019 confirmation she has done nothing but hurt families and public schools. Below are just a few examples.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>The Education Department is reportedly considering not publishing a list of colleges and universities under investigation for mishandling sexual assault claims.<\/b><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.politico.com\/tipsheets\/morning-education\/2017\/06\/29\/title-ix-list-going-out-of-print-221112\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Pulitik<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: \u201cTITLE IX LIST GOING OUT OF PRINT? The Education Department may soon stop publishing a weekly list of colleges and universities under investigation for allegedly mishandling sexual violence claims \u2014 a list that started with 55 schools when it was first published in 2014 and has since ballooned to nearly 240 as of this week. Candice Jackson, the acting head of the department\u2019s Office for Civil Rights, called it a \u2018list of shame\u2019 this week at the National Association of College and University Attorneys conference in Chicago where she said it\u2019s high on the list of things the Trump administration may soon do away with.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Trump\u2019s budget slashes funding for the Education Department\u2019s Office for Civil Rights and does not dedicate any money for a fund supporting anti-bullying initiatives.<\/b><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.latimes.com\/local\/education\/la-me-trump-budget-education-20170523-htmlstory.html\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Los Angeles Times<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">:<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cThe $9.2 billion in cuts represent a 13.5% drop from the U.S. Department of Education\u2019s 2017 budget of $68.2 billion. It includes a $2-million cut to the Office for Civil Rights, the group responsible for enforcing civil rights law in the nation\u2019s schools.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/news\/politics\/2017\/05\/23\/president-trump-budget-reveals-his-major-priorities\/102058690\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">USA Dinten<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">:<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cTrump is also proposing cutting childcare for low-income parents attending college and eliminating a fund that underwrites anti-bullying programs, Advanced Placement courses and STEM coursework. He\u2019d keep the same level of funding \u2014 $492 million \u2014 for historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs) and other \u2018minority-serving\u2019 colleges.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>DeVos eliminated a federal task force that helped crackdown on abuses at for-profit colleges.<\/b><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.politico.com\/story\/2017\/08\/31\/devos-trump-forprofit-college-education-242193\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Pulitik<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: \u201cBeyond those changes, for-profit colleges are notching wins behind the scenes, as Education Department regulators scale back their enforcement of the industry and decide individual cases in ways that favor the industry. The administration quietly killed a federal task force designed to crack down on abuses at for-profit colleges and share information across investigative agencies such as the Federal Trade Commission, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, the Securities and Exchange Commission and state attorneys general.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Trump\u2019s budget would eliminate after-school programs that serve 1.6 million children, primarily from low-income neighborhoods.<\/b><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.npr.org\/sections\/ed\/2017\/05\/27\/529867484\/education-department-faces-deep-cuts-devos-faces-tough-questions\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">NPR<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">:<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cThe Education Department faces a 13.5 percent cut in spending, including the elimination of $1.2 billion in after-school programs and a $2.3 billion program to reduce class sizes and train teachers.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/local\/education\/trumps-first-full-education-budget-deep-cuts-to-public-school-programs-in-pursuit-of-school-choice\/2017\/05\/17\/2a25a2cc-3a41-11e7-8854-21f359183e8c_story.html?utm_term=.464a1dad4ee4\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Washington Post<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: \u201cThe cuts would come from eliminating at least 22 programs, some of which Trump outlined in March. Gone, for example, would be $1.2 billion for after-school programs that serve 1.6 million children, most of whom are poor, and $2.1 billion for teacher training and class-size reduction.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Trump\u2019s budget cut teacher training programs by $2.1 billion and funding for special education programs.<\/b><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.edweek.org\/edweek\/campaign-k-12\/2017\/05\/trump_budget_would_slash_Education_Dept._Spending_Boost_School_Choice.html\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Education Week<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">:<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cThe biggest single line-item to be eliminated is $2.1 billion for supporting teacher development and reducing class size under Title II.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.edweek.org\/edweek\/campaign-k-12\/2017\/05\/trump_budget_would_slash_Education_Dept._Spending_Boost_School_Choice.html\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Education Week<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: \u201cGrants for special education, which also go out by formula, get $12.7 billion in Trump\u2019s budget, a decline of about $112 million from the amount in the fiscal 2017 budget deal.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Trump\u2019s budget eliminated a program providing on-campus childcare for low-income parents pursuing a college degree.<\/b><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.politico.com\/tipsheets\/morning-education\/2017\/05\/25\/five-programs-trump-wants-to-scrap-that-you-might-have-missed-220508\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Pulitik<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: \u201cCampus childcare: Parents pursuing a college degree who might have grown accustomed to bringing their children to campus would have to look elsewhere for childcare as the administration would get rid of the Child Care Access Means Parents in School program, which provides on-campus childcare for low-income parents.
