Border Bill Rejected.<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">LINCOLN, NE &#8211; The Nebraska Democratic Party Chair Jane Kleeb issues the following statement regarding the Nebraska Federal Delegation\u2014Ricketts, Fischer, Bacon, Flood, and Smith\u2014 rejecting the proposed bipartisan border bill with President Biden:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cDonald Trump\u2019s grip on the Republican Party is now destroying a border bill that even the border patrol union supports. It is clear Nebraska\u2019s Republican delegation &#8211; from Don Bacon to Pete Ricketts &#8211; wants to campaign on the problem rather than a solution.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Democrats, and some Republican Senators, have put humane proposals on the table to both deal with criminal activity at the border while also making sure those seeking asylum have a legal process to follow. Many provisions, once considered extreme by immigration advocates, were presented as necessary in an effort to curb illegal immigration. The bill proposes an overhaul to the system with tougher and quicker enforcement measures.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The conservative <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/senate-border-security-bill-james-lankford-republicans-immigration-biden-border-patrol-asylum-bc2f9543?mod=opinion_lead_pos2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Wall Street Journal<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> took issue with many Congressional Republicans outright rejecting the proposed border bill as a \u201cdo-nothing\u201d approach. Additional media outlets, like <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2024\/01\/25\/politics\/gop-senators-angry-trump-immigration-deal\/index.html\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">CNN<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, reported that many Republicans had taken orders from former President Donald Trump to \u201chold off\u201d on legislation to avoid giving President Biden a victory on the immigration issue.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Additionally, the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sinema.senate.gov\/new-national-border-patrol-council-endorses-sinemas-border-security-bill\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">National Border Patrol Council<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, a labor union representing over 18,000 border patrol officers that endorsed former president Trump in 2020, has come out in support of the bipartisan border deal as a pragmatic solution that will have immediate effects.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cThe Border Act of 2024 will codify, into law, authorities that U.S. Border Patrol agents never had in the past. This will allow us to remove single adults expeditiously and without a lengthy judicial review, which historically has required the release of these individuals into the interior of the U.S. This alone will drop illegal border crossings nationwide and will allow a great many of our agents to get back to detecting and apprehending those who want to cross our borders illegally and evade apprehension.
