Nebraska Democratic Party Chair Jane Kleeb made the following statement Wednesday after the GOP-controlled U.S. Senate acquitted President Trump of impeachment on charges of abuse of power and obstructing Congress.<\/span>
\n<\/span>
\n<\/span>\u201cThe GOP — including Sens. Ben Sasse and Deb Fischer — flat-out engaged in a criminal cover-up. Just like when they voted to not allow witnesses to testify in the so-called impeachment trial, they turned a blind eye to the facts and chose party over country. It\u2019s pathetic and horrifying.<\/span>
\n<\/span>
\n<\/span>They have endorsed Trump\u2019s criminal behavior. He asked a foreign interest to meddle in our elections. And that\u2019s OK with them.<\/span><\/p>\n

The 2020 election is getting closer and we will not forget how Trump and the GOP have shredded our Constitution and flouted the rule of law. Voters in Nebraska and around the nation will not forget and will make things right. The Democratic Party is focused on talking with rural and urban voters to make the case it is time to break up the status quo that protects a criminal president.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n
