As a select House committee listened Tuesday to the emotional and gripping testimony and watched the body-cam videos of four police officers who defended lawmakers during the Jan. 6 Capitol attack by a mob of Trump supporters, most GOP lawmakers tried to deflect the seriousness of the insurrection.<\/p>\n

House Republicans called the chamber\u2019s investigation into the attack a \u201csham\u201d and a \u201cpolitical charade.\u201d After it concluded in the early afternoon, they provided myriad reasons for why they did not tune in to\u00a0the harrowing testimony<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Rep. Don Bacon and the rest of Nebraska\u2019s congressional contingent said not a peep. Bacon, in fact,\u00a0tweeted about going trap shooting.<\/a><\/p>\n

Well, the Twitter Universe took notice and scorched him for it.<\/p>\n

Bacon\u2019s communications director tried to make things better by saying the trap shooting took place more than a week prior. But what he could not smooth over was the fact that his boss ignored thanking the officers who helped protect him and his House colleagues from harm — because that’s what his GOP bosses ordered him to do.<\/p>\n

The NDP has launched a \u201cFlip that Bacon\u201d website to target Bacon\u2019s 2nd District congressional seat in 2022.<\/p>\n

The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee has CD2 as one of its 22 competitive House districts that are either open or held by Republicans.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are building a winning coalition of voters to flip the CD2 seat red to blue,\u201d said NDP Chair Jane Kleeb. \u201cRep. Bacon pretends he is a moderate using all sorts of fake talking points. Bacon\u2019s voting record reflects his true values of turning his back on assistance to small businesses and families as well as women experiencing violence. Nebraskans do not like fake bacon and we intend to keep Don accountable.\u201d<\/p>\n
