The Impeachment Train chugged into the U.S. Senate this week with pomp and circumstance while President Trump was holding court — as only he can — via one of his patented stream-of consciousness blatherings at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.It was there that Trump, in front of some of the world’s tech and business behemoths, was interviewed by CNBC’s Joe Kernen.Trump was asked to comment on eccentric Tesla CEO Elon Musk.“Well, you have to give him credit,” the president said. “He’s also doing the rockets. He likes rockets, and he does good at rockets too, by the way.”

Expressing awe over the fact that Musk’s rockets don’t have wings, Trump explained that the United States needs to “protect our geniuses” like Musk.

“We have to protect Thomas Edison — we have to protect all of these people that came up with originally the light bulb, and the wheel, and all of these things, and he’s one of our very smart people,” Trump added. “We want to cherish those people. That’s very important. He’s done a very good job.”

We note for the record that the wheel was invented in ancient Mesopotamia — a region that roughly corresponds to present-day Iraq — around 3,500 B.C.

Meanwhile, our old friend تشارلز بيرس dutifully followed Trump’s Senate Impeachment Trial, where it appears that the GOP will not allow witnesses to testify.

“The Senate’s Republican majority have already betrayed their oaths to serve as impartial jurors –or, more importantly, their original oath to defend the Constitution. Mitch McConnell announced this was a sham trial long ago. They’ve given him the green light to lie and cheat all the way to November.”

Nebraska Democrats lost one of our best and brightest. Mary Hakanson, (second from left in below photo) longtime Kearney resident passed away on January 18, 2020.

Mary retired from her 40-year career at West Company in Kearney. Mary was an active member of Nebraska AFL-CIO throughout her career and was on the Central Labor Council. She held many offices in the Buffalo County Democratic Party, including chair and was on the State Central Committee. She was also elected as 2nd Associate Chair of the NDP.
