At last count, the Washington Post’s Fact Checker had documented more than 20,000 lies and misleading statements uttered by President Trump since he took office.
The president crossed the 20,000 mark on July 9, after a 14-month period during which he made an average of 23 claims a day on everything from his impeachment trial, the worldwide pandemic and the Black Lives Matter protests.
Now it is time to hail Jonathan Swan of Axios for his Monday interview with Trump during which he confronted the president’s lies and buffoonish statements.
Trump has repeatedly said he doesn’t like coronavirus testing because it shows how many cases you have, which makes him look bad. This time he attributed this position to undefined manuals and books.
Trump: There are those that say, you can test too much. You do know that.
Swan: Who says that?
Trump: Oh, just read the manuals. Read the books.
Swan: Manuals? What manuals?
Trump: Read the books. Read the books.
Swan: What books?
Swan also called Trump out when he said the United State had the coronavirus “under control.”

Trump: “They are dying. That’s true. And you have — it is what it is.
Swan: “Oh, you’re doing death as a proportion of cases. I’m talking about death as a proportion of population. That’s where the U.S. is really bad. Much worse than South Korea, Germany, etc.”
Trump: “You can’t do that.”
Swan: “Why can’t I do that?”
Just 88 days until the election, folks. And that’s no lie.

A sober living house that opened two months ago in downtown Sioux City, Iowa, was renamed Tuesday to honor founder Frank LaMere, who died in 2019.
LaMere, a member of the Winnebago Nation of Nebraska and first associate chair of the Nebraska Democratic Party, left a legacy of leadership on myriad social justice issues.
He is missed.
