Nebraska Democratic Party & Douglas County Democratic Party Joint Statement on the Shooting of an Omaha Police Officer Today
LINCOLN, NE – Nebraska Democratic Party Chair Jane Kleeb and Douglas County Party Chair CJ King issued the following joint statement after the shooting of an Omaha Police Officer this morning:
“Our first and foremost thoughts are with the Omaha officer who was shot, his family, and co-workers. Our first responders protect this community every single day, and every Nebraskan wants them to return home safely at the end of their shift.
We have no patience for politicizing the shooting of an officer or for any attempt to incorrectly assign blame in broader police matters to score political points. Mayor Ewing served as a police officer for decades — he knows firsthand the risks and responsibilities that come with wearing the badge.
Douglas County remains a safe and welcoming place to raise a family. We are deeply grateful to the first responders and elected officials who work tirelessly for the people and are working to ensure new systems are put in place to keep our communities safe and make Omaha even stronger.”
