Former Assistant Attorney General Brasher Running for Nebraska Attorney General

LINCOLN, Neb. Former Assistant Attorney General Jocelyn Brasher announced today that she is running for Nebraska Attorney General, challenging incumbent Mike Hilgers. A Nebraska native born at Offutt Air Force Base and raised in the state, Brasher said she is running to refocus the Attorney General’s Office on serving Nebraskans—not Washington politics or a partisan agenda.

Brasher earned her undergraduate degree from Auburn University before returning home to attend Creighton University School of Law, where she completed her legal education in two-and-a-half years with concentrations in Criminal Law and Procedure and Litigation. While in law school, she clerked in the Douglas County Attorney’s Office Juvenile Division and argued cases before the Nebraska Court of Appeals.

Since becoming licensed in 2016, Brasher has served in the Dawson County Attorney’s Office and the Dodge County Attorney’s Office and spent five years in the Nebraska Attorney General’s Office. During her tenure in the Attorney General’s Office, she worked in the Consumer Protection Bureau, enforcing state and federal laws to protect Nebraskans from fraud, deception, and unfair business practices.

“I am running because the Attorney General must be independent, principled, and guided by honesty and integrity — not politics,” Brasher said. She added, “As federal enforcement priorities shift, state Attorneys General must step up to protect consumers and ensure fair markets. As Nebraska’s Attorney General, I will lead that effort by enforcing antitrust laws that promote competition, prevent monopolies, and crack down on price gouging. I will work every day to make life more affordable for Nebraskans by keeping the Attorney General’s Office a strong, independent watchdog for consumers.”

As Attorney General, Brasher said she will prioritize strong consumer protection enforcement, strengthen public safety, and support strong, responsible oversight of the health care industry.

Brasher said she is ready to lead on day one and is committed to restoring trust in the office. “This role comes with a responsibility to be fair, to listen, and to do the right thing, even when it’s hard,” she said. She added that the office also carries a duty to respect Nebraska voters. As Attorney General, Brasher said she will advocate for constituents, serve all Nebraskans, and will always respect the voice of Nebraska voters. I would be honored to be Nebraska’s next Attorney General,” Brasher said.
