LINCOLN—Nebraska Democratic Party Chair Vince Powers released the following statement on today’s presidential caucuses:
“Today’s caucuses have been a great success. From Scotts Bluff to Omaha, Kimball to Lincoln, we have seen impassioned and energized Nebraska Democrats join their neighbors in support of the Democratic principles of fairness, inclusion and opportunity for all. While Nebraska Republicans were too embarrassed to feature their fear-mongering, hate-driven candidates in our state, Democrats proudly caucused for our outstanding candidates: Bernie Sanders and Hillary Clinton. I congratulate both of their campaigns and their supporters on a spirited and exciting race that focused on the needs of working Nebraska families, not just the wealthy and corporate interests.
“Our caucuses would not have been possible without the time, energy and commitment of our tireless county chairs, local leaders and volunteers. I want to thank them for all they did to make today a success as we built on our initial 2008 caucuses, and for their continued support of Nebraska Democrats all across the state.
“I am confident that the enthusiasm we saw from Nebraska Democrats today will propel our candidates to victories up and down the ballot this May, November and beyond. We are going to re-elect Brad Ashford and work to elect democrats up and down the ballot. Nebraska Democrats are just getting started.”
