Nebraska Democratic Party Statement on the Passing of Trump’s Big Ugly Bill
LINCOLN, NE – The Nebraska Democratic Party Chair Jane Kleeb issues the following statement after the House of Representatives voted on the final passage of Trump’s “Big Ugly Bill” on a 218-214 vote:
“On the eve of America’s birthday—a day meant to celebrate freedom, family, and the promise of opportunity—the Republican Party delivered a devastating blow to that promise. By slashing Medicaid, they’ve condemned rural hospitals to closure, abandoned farmers and ranchers, and ripped away lifesaving care from more than 78,000 Nebraskans. And while doing so, they also turned their backs on American-made wind and solar energy—energy that protects our water, respects property rights, and powers our future.
This isn’t leadership. It’s betrayal.
While Republicans bow to billionaire donors and cling to the chaos of King Trump, Democrats are out where Nebraskans gather—at parades, rodeos, concerts, and fairs—listening, standing shoulder to shoulder with working and middle-class families, and fighting back.
Don Bacon may have seen the writing on the wall and decided to bail before facing voters, but we’re not going anywhere. We’re building a movement to break the one-party grip on our state and deliver real choices for Nebraskans—leaders who put people before profits and communities before corporations.”
