Nebraska Democratic Party Statement on the Nebraska Supreme Court Ruling in Our Favor on the William Forbes Lawsuit
LINCOLN, NE – The Nebraska Democratic Party Chair and ASDC President Jane Kleeb issued the following statement regarding today’s ruling in our favor regarding the William Forbes lawsuit:
“Today’s ruling in our favor recognizes an essential principle: Nebraska political parties retain the discretion to determine whether to fill a ballot vacancy when a nominee withdraws. William Forbes, and by proxy, Pete Ricketts and the MAGA billionaires, failed in their attempt to force the Nebraska Democratic Party to place a candidate on the ballot line for U.S. Senate. Our stance has been clear that only through a true coalition of Democrats, Independents, and Republicans can Pete Ricketts and the corrupt one-party Republican rule in the Senate be defeated.
Over the weekend, the Nebraska Democratic Party’s State Central Committee voted not to fill the U.S. Senate vacancy. This was a deliberate decision made through the Party’s democratic process and in accordance with Nebraska law. The decision not to fill the vacancy made it official that we will support a Navy veteran, mechanic, and family man over an out-of-touch billionaire backed by Trump. Nebraskans are ready for change, and we are building a winning coalition to lower costs and protect our freedoms. "
