Awfully awful and more — #NebDems News

NOTE: This is an early edition of #NebDems News and the last of 2020.

As the year winds down, we all can agree that 2020 has been — well — awful. There are far stronger and apt adjectives, but we shall bow to decorum.

So as an early holiday gift, here is a compilation of recent headlines from The New Yorker’s Andy Borowitz, who has been on a real roll of late.

Betsy DeVos Warns That Biden Will Pick Education Secretary with Background in Education
“For the past four years, I have worked tirelessly to keep our schools free from education,” she said.

McConnell Congratulates Neil Armstrong on Walking on Moon
The Senate Majority Leader wanted to be sure that the moon “had been officially walked on” before congratulating the late astronaut.

Trump Orders Space Force to Discover Other Planets with Courts
With his legal options on this planet dwindling, Trump is placing all of his hopes on identifying another planet that might have intergalactic jurisdiction over Earth.

Fauci a Little Weirded Out by People Suddenly Listening to Him
“I guess I got used to being in meetings where I’d start talking and people would take that as an opportunity to look at their phones,” he said.

Just two days until Christmas — and 28 days until Trump leaves and President-elect Joe Biden and Vice-President-elect Kamala Harris take over and clean up this mess.

Here at the Nebraska Democratic Party, we know it’s been hard for families this year during the pandemic, and this holiday season we would like to assist our communities in any way we can.

Thanks to our awesome donors, we will be able to provide holiday meals in three cities (Omaha, Lincoln and Hastings). Not only are we helping families, we are also supporting small businesses that have been impacted by the pandemic.

Meals will be provided by Big Mama’s Kitchen in Omaha, The Venue in Lincoln and Odyssey in Hastings. Meals will serve a family of four and include dessert.

If you want to DONATE for the meals, please click here.

Welcome to the Party calls will return starting on Jan. 12! We are excited to cover topics like city elections, voter registration and the Legislature. We also will be giving our caucuses and councils the floor to talk about their goals and how you can get involved.

January dates are listed at the end of this blog under “Important Dates.”

If you have suggestions for topics to cover, please email

You can help swing the balance of the U.S. Senate!

Two GOP incumbents, Sens. David Perdue and Kelly Loeffler, are facing runoffs against Democrats: Jon Ossoff facing Perdue and the Rev. Raphael Warnock facing Loeffler. If Ossoff and Warnock win, the Senate will become evenly split, 50-50, with Vice President Kamala Harris holding the tie-breaking vote.

Some 1.3 million Georgia voters have already cast early ballots — a good sign for Democrats.

You can do your part to help get voters involved!
