Nebraska Democratic Party Latino Caucus Statement and Call to Action on the First Anniversary of the Glenn Valley ICE Raid in Omaha
OMAHA, NE – The Nebraska Democratic Party Latino Caucus Chair Jennifer Reyna issued the following statement and invitation to participate in the Día de Alegría (Day of Joy), honoring the resilience of the South Omaha community on the first anniversary of the Glenn Valley ICE raid in Omaha:
The NDP Latino Caucus invites the community to Día de Alegría, a celebration of healing, unity, and unyielding strength marking one year since the June 10, 2025, ICE raid at Glenn Valley Foods in Omaha.
That raid was a cruel attempt by federal enforcement to rip our families apart and terrorize our community. They failed because we are still here. Where they sought to sow fear, South Omaha responded with unbreakable family and community unity. We face adversity by standing closer together, refusing to be broken.
The NDP Latino Caucus will participate in el Día de Alegría by providing free paletas (popsicles) and a free bracelet-making activity for families. We will also do our part by registering community members to vote, verifying voter registration details, and providing much-needed resources to educate community members about local candidates and other issues affecting Latinos.
Our collective voice will be the antidote to the fear-mongering by ICE agents and the administration that has unleashed them into our communities.
We encourage everyone to reclaim our space and support the vibrant local businesses and allies along South Omaha’s historic 24th Street corridor while enjoying music, cultural exhibits, and community events.
“As we reflect on what happened to our South Omaha families last year, we want to honor the fierce resilience they have shown. Día de Alegría is about creating moments of joy and proving that our community remains unbroken. We are working alongside elected officials to ensure that effective immigration reform is the goal, so no one can ever attempt to tear our families apart again.” – NDP Latino Caucus Chair Jennifer Reyna
