Nebraska Democratic Party Official Statement on the Supreme Court’s Ruling Striking Down the Trump Tariffs
LINCOLN, NE – The Nebraska Democratic Party Chair and ASDC President Jane Kleeb issued the following statement regarding the Supreme Court’s ruling striking down President Trump’s tariffs:
“In the most American thing, the Supreme Court ruled 6-3 that the Trump tariffs under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act are unconstitutional. The ruling reaffirms Congress’s power of the purse. Small businesses and working families can now breathe a sigh of relief from the crushing burden of these unlawful tariffs.
While we may not always agree with rulings from the Supreme Court, we respect decisions from the high court. To call Supreme Court Justices “disgraceful” because they don’t side with your tariff policies is yet another display of disrespect by the President towards the other branches of government.
While we know President Trump will try to use other statutes to impose his unilateral tariffs, we side with the majority of Americans who did not vote for additional taxes on everyday products and services and make enemies of our biggest trading partners.”
