Preposterous Proposition and more — #NebDems News

Civil rights icon Rep. John Lewis was laid to rest Thursday. Former President Barack Obama delivered a moving eulogy and Former presidents George W. Bush and Bill Clinton also paid their respects.

President Trump skipped the funeral, instead tweeting about the possibility of postponing the Nov. 3 election. In his tweet — which came just after the federal government reported the worst economic contraction in recorded history — he claimed without evidence the contest will be flawed.

Bear in mind that this came just days after a CNN headline trumpeted: Trump promotes a doctor who has claimed alien DNA was used in medical treatments.

Enter our old friend, the venerable Charles Pierce of Esquire:

The shebeen is going to ignore El Caudillo del Mar-a-Lago’s idiot Thursday morning Tweet about postponing the election for the Look, Squirrel! authoritarian cosplay that it is. (Which is not to say that every Republican elected official shouldn’t have his feet held to the fire on the question.)

But that is not to say that the administration’s powerful and reckless ratfcking of said election is not fully underway, and a lot of it is aimed at the U.S. Postal Service, which American conservatives despise on principle, because it is a Big Government program that, you know, works for people. Building on that, and on the gaslight notion that vote-by-mail is a vehicle for fraud, and taking advantage of that misbegotten 2006 law that required the USPS to fund health benefits out seven decades, the administration is now doing everything it can to sabotage the USPS in advance of the 2020 election, with the added bonus of crippling a government agency that Republicans would be trying to cripple no matter who got elected in 2016.

Just 95 days until the Nov. 3 election. And Trump knows it. VOTE!
