CD2 Now “Lean-Dem” — Big News!

Investments in party infrastructure over the past two years by the Democratic National Committee, the NDP and the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee to help reclaim Nebraska’s 2nd Congressional District are paying off.

The latest projections from FiveThirtyEight.com and the Cook Political Report show we are on our way to claiming that “Blue Dot” in CD2.

Just today, the Cook Report moved CD2 from “Toss Up” to “Lean Dem” —this is big news for the Kara Eastman campaign and proves what we are seeing on the ground, momentum for Democrats.

You can help us build on that momentum by becoming a Blue Nebraska Monthly Donor!

What has the DNC and the NDP done the past two years to help make this big shift happen?

NDP’s full-time staff is dedicated to working with efforts such as our Block Captain program, where volunteers contact 50 voters in their neighborhood three times during the year.

The DNC invested resources into the NDP in 2019 so we could add two additional staff members. One was a Block Captain Director, which allowed us to go from 50 Block Captains in CD2 to 450 Block Captains today!

The is exactly the type of infrastructure and party-building work the DNC, NDP and DCCC are invested in so we can win elections.

–The year, the DCCC invested resources into the NDP giving us the ability to hire seven new staff all focused on CD2.

–We saw an increase of more than 4% in the number of Democratic voters registered in CD2 since 2016 — allowing us to close the gap on the GOP.

–Democratic voters showed up strong in the May Primary Election, with a whopping 89% jump in ballots cast over the 2016 primary numbers (159,199 in 2020 compared to 84,009 in 2016). Republicans, on the other hand, saw only a 26% increase.

Dave Pantos, campaign manager for Eastman’s bid to unseat GOP Rep. Don Bacon, said he is excited for the hard work that has led to this Democratic momentum.

“It reflects the thousands of people we talk to every day, especially independents, who are fed up with President Trump’s mismanagement of the COVID-19 pandemic, as enabled by Rep. Don Bacon,” he said. “Great as these numbers are, we will take nothing for granted as we will continue to work tirelessly for every vote in the district.”
