POSITION TITLE: Rural Organizer
REPORTS TO: Voter Engagement Director
LOCATION: Saunders, Hastings, or Grand Island
OVERVIEW:
Geographical main focus in Saunders County for NE2, LD33, and LD35 as well as county party and Young Democrats chapter building in rural areas.
SCOPE OF POSITION:
The Nebraska Democratic Party is seeking a motivated and passionate individual to serve as a full-time Rural Organizer. The organizer will be responsible for registering voters, recruiting and managing volunteers, launching events, and building relationships. The geographical focus will be Saunders County in Congressional District 2, Legislative District 33 (Hastings), and Legislative District 35 (Grand Island). The Rural Organizer will also be responsible for working with local county parties to build local infrastructure. Additionally, the organizer will assist in building Young Democratic chapters within the specified area. The organizer will report directly to the Voter Engagement Director.
EXPERIENCE:
To apply for this job, you must have at least 1 year of professional nonprofit, business, or political communications experience.
COMPENSATION:
$3,000 per month, plus health insurance. NDP staff are part of the IBEW union. This is a full-time position.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Recruit, train, and manage volunteers to expand the volunteer network in rural areas.
- Manage and execute phone banks, text banks, and canvasses.
- Support voter registration efforts in assigned areas.
- Build relationships with local community groups, allies, and stakeholders.
- Work regularly with local county parties to support party activity and candidates.
Identify and work towards building Young Democrats chapters on college campuses and other young adult networks.
SKILLS REQUIRED:
- Knowledge of Votebuilder and Excel.
- Excellent listening skills that do not internalize criticism but instead act on suggestions.
- Exceptionally organized with the ability to meet strict deadlines.
- Building and strengthening relationships with local party leaders and candidates in assigned work areas.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- The ability to be self-motived and goal-oriented.
- Disciplined, and solutions-oriented approach to all tasks.
- Valid driver’s license, reliable access to a vehicle, and a willingness to travel within assigned work area.
- Willingness to work extensive hours, including nights and weekends (as needed).
- Commitment to supporting voter empowerment in Nebraska.
- Enjoys driving and meeting with rural Nebraskans from all backgrounds.
- Knowledge and understanding of political dynamics within Nebraska including how the SCC, SEC, Caucus, and county party structure works.
POSITION TITLE: Grassroots Organizer
REPORTS TO: Voter Engagement Director
LOCATION: Statewide positions available with a focus on Omaha, Lincoln, Sarpy, Saunders, Hastings, Grand Island
OVERVIEW:
Work in targeted legislative districts to canvass, make phone calls and attend cultural events. Register voters, process VBM applications, and distribute voter guides.
SCOPE OF POSITION:
The Nebraska Democratic Party is seeking motivated and passionate individuals to serve as Grassroots Organizers. The organizers will be responsible for registering voters, launching events, door knocking (canvassing), phone banking, writing postcards, and building relationships with voters. The organizer will report directly to the Voter Engagement Director. This is a great position to learn about politics and the Democratic Party.
EXPERIENCE:
To apply for this job, you must have at least 6 months of professional nonprofit, business, or political communications experience.
COMPENSATION:
$20 an hour. This is an hourly position.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Recruit, train, and manage volunteers to expand the volunteer network.
- Manage and execute phone banks, text banks, and canvasses.
- Canvass and make phone calls to support voter registration and Democratic candidates’ campaigns.
SKILLS REQUIRED:
- Exceptionally organized with the ability to meet strict deadlines.
- The ability to be self-motivated and goal-oriented.
- Disciplined, and solutions-oriented approach to all tasks.
- Valid driver’s license, reliable access to a vehicle, and a willingness to travel throughout the assigned work area.

POSITION TITLE: Interns/Fellows
REPORTS TO: Various staff members per the intern’s area of interest
LOCATION: Statewide
OVERVIEW:
The Nebraska Democratic Party offers interns an exciting opportunity to learn about political campaigns, perform various grassroots tasks, and learn the inner workings of building the Democratic Party in our state.
SCOPE OF POSITION:
The NDP offers a variety of opportunities for talented, hard-working, and dedicated individuals looking to gain experience in the fast-paced world of politics. Based on area of interest, interns will be assigned to a specific staff member. Intern positions are available at both our Lincoln and Omaha offices. During the summer, internships may be available in rural communities as well. Some light travel may be required. The internship provides a unique opportunity to get hands-on experience working in the day-to-day operations of a major political party in our state. During election season, interns will have opportunities to work with campaigns at different government levels. If the internship is tied to higher learning, staff will provide updates and completion status to earn college credit.
EXPERIENCE:
No experience is required but interns will have the opportunity to work in various areas of interest including communications, organizing, data, candidate recruitment, party building, fundraising, constituency outreach, and social media. Candidates we are especially looking for candidates with unique skill sets like graphic design, campaign experience, or who are bilingual are strongly encouraged to apply.
COMPENSATION:
Interns will work with staff involving an approved schedule. An internship will be volunteer-based while the candidate learns valuable skills and experience.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Attend trainings, party leader meetings, fundraisers, campaign events, fairs/parades, and cultural festivals.
- Some knowledge of current issues, initiatives, legislation, and events impacting voters/citizens both at the local and national level.
- As directed by staff, participate in canvassing activities, phone/text banking, and other campaign tasks.
- Network and learn valuable skills through hands-on experience with NDP staff, leaders, elected officials, candidates, activists, and allies.
