Nebraska Democratic Party Statement on Alex Jeffrey Pretti Killed by ICE Agents

LINCOLN, NE – The Nebraska Democratic Party Chair and ASDC President Jane Kleeb issued the following statement regarding the shooting of American Alex Jeffrey Pretti:

Another line was crossed in Minneapolis by unchecked and unaccountable ICE agents. Alex Pretti was killed in full view of the public. No amount of spin, misdirection, or alternative facts from the Trump administration or Secretary Kristi Noem’s Department of Homeland Security can erase what millions of Americans have now witnessed.

Rather than de-escalate or show restraint, this administration responded with callousness—attempting to smear Alex Pretti as a “domestic terrorist” and relying on claims that are already contradicted by eyewitness accounts and video evidence.

Alex Pretti was a nurse who cared for veterans. He showed up not to provoke violence, but to help his neighbors as they exercised their constitutional rights. He acted in the spirit of the First and Second Amendments, and nothing about his actions justified the lethal force used against him. Those rights are not conditional. They do not disappear because ICE agents are present.

As a party, we mourn the killing of another citizen who spoke out against the brutal and increasingly militarized tactics of ICE. We stand with Governor Tim Walz in calling for ICE to leave Minnesota and for a full, independent investigation—free from federal interference—so that those responsible can be held accountable.

There is no justification for turning immigration enforcement into a paramilitary operation. Previous administrations enforced immigration law without treating American communities as war zones. The current lawlessness and escalation by ICE is not making us safer—it is eroding public trust, endangering lives, and undermining the constitutional rights of every American.
