Forty-nine years after Roe, vulnerable Rep. Don Bacon threatens women’s freedoms

As the nation celebrates 49 years since Roe v. Wade gave women the constitutional right to an abortion, extremist Republicans like Don Bacon are still trying to take our nation backward and control women’s freedoms.

From voting against legislation to protect Nebraskans from attacks on their abortion rights, to joining extreme anti-choice Republicans on a friend-of-the-court brief urging the Supreme Court to overturn Roe v. Wade, Bacon has placed himself on the wrong side of history.

A strong majority of Americans support Roe, yet Bacon has refused to stand up to the nearly 600 dangerous Republican efforts introduced this past year to take away women’s freedoms. He even backed the radical Texas abortion ban that all but eliminates access to safe, legal abortion in the state and puts a bounty on anyone who tries to help women seek care.

The truth is, if Bacon had his way, 36 million women across the country could have their constitutionally-secured rights stripped away from them.

Said DCCC spokesperson Johanna Warshaw:

“Make no mistake — Don Bacon is a threat to women’s health care in Nebraska and across the country. Bacon wouldn’t hesitate to roll back the freedoms women have had for the last 49 years and ban their constitutional right to abortion nationwide.”
