Dear Friend,
It’s a pleasure to ask your support for Heath Mello in his race for mayor of Omaha—not just because of the good he’ll do for the city, but because of the good he’ll do for the planet.

We’re at a strange moment in our history. The federal government in Washington DC, which should be leading the charge on dealing with our environmental problems, has decided to retreat instead. The head of the EPA doesn’t believe in climate science; the president is pretty sure global warming is a hoax; and Congress is busy doing the work of their donors by cutting all the laws that have cleaned our air and water.
That leaves our cities to do the job instead. And thank heaven they’re stepping up. On a whole list of issues from diversity to education to the environment, cities are finding themselves in the lead. Many of them are stepping up the challenge with innovative plans—and as they do their local economies blossom as people remember why they like urban life so much.
Omaha under Heath Mello will be an important part of that list—in fact, a very important part. This rebirth of cities needs some anchors in the middle of the country, and Omaha—with its deep traditions like Old Market—can help lead the way.

We’re obviously in desperate environmental trouble: 2016 was the hottest year ever recorded on our planet. Which means that Heath Mello’s support for a Climate Action Plan for the City of Omaha is both necessary and shrewd. It’s leadership like this that makes sure Omaha will retain its edge, even in difficult times.
Nebraskans are taking action today by marching in the People’s Climate March. We can all feel confident that we have a candidate for Omaha’s Mayor that has our backs for taking action on climate.
Thank you,
