NDP and DNC Joint Statement on Flooding

NDP Chair Jane Kleeb, DNC Chair Tom Perez and DNC Vice Chair Rep. Grace Meng issued a joint statement Wednesday in solidarity with the thousands of Nebraskans being impacted by the widespread, devastating flooding.

“It is truly staggering to see the horrific damage that this flooding has wreaked on farmers and ranchers who are already living with razor thin margins,” Chair Kleeb said. “Nebraska needs major federal funding to assist the recovery and rebuilding. We need to confront climate change and create infrastructure that can withstand extreme weather that is becoming more frequent.”

DNC Chair Tom Perez said, “We stand with all Nebraskans affected by the catastrophic flooding and are committed to supporting them through this difficult time. Nebraska’s resolve is unrivaled, and together we will meet this challenge.”

DNC Vice Chair Rep. Meng said, “As Nebraska rebuilds under horrific conditions of the flood, it is critical for Congress to act quickly to support funding and assistance on the ground that will save lives. The strength of Nebraskans is being witnessed around the country and we remain committed to help rebuild.”

If you want to volunteer with or donate to one of the groups offering help to those Nebraskans hurting from the historic flooding, the Omaha World-Herald compiled a comprehensive list of ways to do so.

The Ponca Tribe of Nebraska is also seeking assistance.

In addition, the Nebraska Democratic Party will collect items at our Lincoln and Omaha office for residents we know need some help. Water, canned food and basic pantry items as well as coats, clothes for kids and adults, shoes all sizes, cleaning supplies, disinfectants and blankets. We will also collect items at our State Central Committee meeting at the end of the month.
