NEBRASKA TAXPAYERS PAYING 15 MILLION FOR GOVERNOR HEINEMAN LED FAILED PRIVATIZATION ‘EXPERIMENT’

LINCOLN – Governor Heineman has cost Nebraska taxpayers 15 million dollars due to his failed efforts to privatize the state foster care system. In 2009, the governor “experimented” with the privatization of the foster care system, and his “experiment” ended up costing Nebraska taxpayers 15 million dollars while exposing kids to a complete loss of foster care services.

“Once again, Nebraska taxpayers must pay the price for Heineman’s failed efforts,” said Dan Marvin,Executive Director of the Nebraska Democratic Party. “The governor enacted a careless plan by way of a privatization effort, which jeopardized our most vulnerable population, children. He has admitted himself that his ‘experiment’ has failed, and now taxpayers are paying the 15 million dollar bill for his failure.”

“Even now, after this colossal failure, Republican candidates are doubling down on privatization. Ben Sasse favors the privatization of Social Security while Pete Ricketts’ Platte Institute constantly beats the drum to privatize services to vulnerable populations. It’s time these politicians learn from their mistakes and start putting Nebraskans first.”
