Nebraska Democratic Party Statement on US Senate Candidate William Forbes Decieving Nebraskan Voters
LINCOLN, NE – The Nebraska Democratic Party Chair and ASDC President Jane Kleeb issued the following statement regarding candidate for the U.S. Senate, William Forbes, who will deceive Nebraska voters:
“The Nebraska Democratic Party today calls on William Forbes’ Senate candidacy for exactly what it is: a political maneuver engineered by Pete Ricketts to split the opposition vote and protect his Senate seat.
Our goal as Nebraskans in 2026 is clear: elect a coalition of candidates who will stand up to Trump’s extremism and work to lower the costs piling up on families’ kitchen tables – while Trump and his allies accept private jets from foreign governments and profit from insider deals.
There is an immediate threat to our democracy. When the federal government sends masked agents against Americans on our streets, arrests hardworking immigrants without warrants, and pursues foreign conflicts without a clear goal or plan – breaking yet another promise to put American families first – Nebraskans must respond.
William Forbes is not running to serve Nebraskans. He is running to trick voters. Forbes wants to ban all access to abortion – an extreme position that makes life more dangerous for women and babies. Forbes is using the Democratic ballot line to deceive voters who deserve better.
The Nebraska Democratic Party made a deliberate, principled decision not to field a candidate in the U.S. Senate race. We believe Dan Osborn – a veteran, a mechanic, a Nebraskan, and an independent voice – represents the best opportunity to defeat Pete Ricketts and deliver real results for working families.
Pete Ricketts is a rubber stamp for Trump and has spent his career protecting the wealthy and well-connected while Nebraskans struggle with rising costs and a government that doesn’t work for them. Now, rather than defend his record, he’s resorting to political deception designed to confuse voters and divide the opposition.
We won’t let that happen. We are organizing voters to elect Democrats and Independents who can form a governing coalition to help Nebraskans and end the one-party Republican rule that has led to corruption like Pillen’s $2.5 million no-bid contract or the lies of lowering our property taxes.
Finally, this manipulation by Ricketts and Forbes makes clear that Nebraska law must change. State parties should be required to certify a candidate’s application before they can appear on the ballot under a party’s name, as many other states already require. Non-serious candidates running to trick voters, like William Forbes, should never be able to exploit the democratic process this way. The Nebraska Democratic Party will pursue this reform.
