Beloved Community Member,

Last May, our community showed up in force as senators voted away our essential rights. We made it clear that no matter what the unicameral says, trans Nebraskans do belong. Now, months later, you have one more chance to make your voice heard.

A week from today, the Department of Health and Human Services will hold a public hearing on LB574’s proposed regulations. These regulations dictate the rules physicians and mental health providers must follow when providing gender-affirming care to patients under 19.

Now that LB574 has been passed into law, we must advocate for its regulations to include best care practices as informed by experts in the field and those with lived experience. Here’s how you can get involved:

👋 Attend the testimony workshop hosted by Urban Abbey, Strongly Worded Letters and OutNebraska. Join us in Omaha on November 27 at 5:30pm.  This workshop will provide a physical space to brainstorm, prepare and edit your testimony among friends and advocates. Learn more here.

✍️ Submit written comments. Public comment is open now and will close at 11:59pm CT on November 28.

📣 Testify in-person. The public hearing will take place November 28 from 7am-7pm at the Lancaster Event Center in the Lincoln Room. Here are some things to know ahead of the hearing:

  • You won’t be alone. OutNebraska staff, as well as our friends from allied organizations, will be present. Snacks and drinks will be available, and comfort buddies will be on-site for those who need emotional support.
  • Since this is an all-day hearing, certain parts of the day will be busier. Whenever you decide to drop in, be prepared to stand or wait in line. Be sure to bring a written copy of your comments to turn in as part of your testimony.

📋 Be informed and prepared. OutNebraska teamed up with ACLU of Nebraska and Nebraska Appleseed to provide a fact sheet for those who plan on testifying or submitting comments. We recommend using this as a reference as you prepare comments and encourage you to share it with friends. Check it out here!

📧 Sign up for legislative updates from OutNebraska. We’re gearing up for another difficult legislative session in 2024. Make sure you’re staying informed by signing up for updates!

As always, we are so honored to be in community with each and every one of you. Thank you for accompanying us in our mission to make Nebraska a better place for everyone.
