Hate Has No Place In Nebraska – A Message from Senator John Fredrickson

To me, June has always been a month where we celebrate love — the love I share with my husband, and the love so many others are able to share with their partners. And every year, we take this time to reflect on the ongoing battle for acceptance for LGBTQ+ Americans everywhere.

This past year has shown us that there is still so much work to be done to make our state — and our country — a place free from hate.

Pride Month is more than just a celebration of identity. It’s a reminder of the strength that comes from embracing our authentic selves. It’s a promise to pursue a world where all Nebraskans are free to love who they love and be who they are, without fear of discrimination, hatred, or bigotry.

We will continue to pursue this future, even in the face of hostility as we’ve seen in the halls of our Capitol. It’s that promise that allows us to lead the way in fighting bigotry in our own legislature, and taking that fight to the national level as well.

I’m proud to be a part of that fight. And I’m even prouder to be joined by so many Nebraskans who have stepped up, spoken out, and defended our right to live and love as our most authentic selves.

Throughout this month, I encourage you to engage in conversations, events, and initiatives that promote inclusivity and support for the LGBTQ+ community — most especially our trans youth — who have faced the brunt of these horrible attacks.

Together, we can create an environment where everyone feels safe, respected, and valued for who they are. And I promise I will never stop fighting until we do.

Thank you, friend. What our country — and our children — need right now is more love. I hope you can join me in celebrating love and fighting for a better tomorrow.
