Mystifyingly mute and more — #NebDems News

Our GOP congressional delegation — Reps. Bacon, Fortenberry and Smith and Sens. Sasse and Fischer, have stood mystifyingly mute of late on an important issue.

On Tuesday, former President Trump weighed in on the Russian invasion of Ukraine as outlined here by Politico:

Trump “described Russian President Vladimir Putin’s invasion of Ukraine as ‘genius’ and ‘savvy,’ praising his onetime counterpart for a move that has spurred sanctions and universal condemnation from the U.S. government and its trans-Atlantic allies.

“I went in yesterday and there was a television screen, and I said, ‘This is genius.’ Putin declares a big portion of the Ukraine — of Ukraine — Putin declares it as independent. Oh, that’s wonderful,” Trump said in a radio interview with “The Clay Travis and Buck Sexton Show.”  He used the word ‘independent’ and ‘we’re gonna go out and we’re gonna go in and we’re gonna help keep peace.’ You gotta say that’s pretty savvy.”

So the questions beg for the aforementioned congressional representatives:

Do you agree with Donald Trump’s praise of Vladimir Putin as “savvy,” a “genius,” and “smart?” Do you condemn his praise? Would you still support him if he runs for the GOP nomination?

We’ll wait. But we’re not holding our breath.

NDP Chair Jane Kleeb gave President Biden high marks for his State of the Union Address on Tuesday.

“President Biden demonstrated strength as he called for unity across our nation to help tackle major issues from the climate crisis to a full economic recovery. Biden approached the COVID pandemic with a serious plan and provided states and communities resources to keep Americans healthy and safe.

“Biden’s bi-partisan Infrastructure and Jobs Act is boosting the entire nation, including the $3 billion to Nebraska for improving our roads, bridges, broadband, airports and building electric vehicle charging stations. As the President laid out, this is only the beginning to the investments we need to build out a clean energy infrastructure that creates good-paying union jobs and helps solve the climate crisis.”

In case you missed it, former Rep. Brad Ashford penned a compelling piece in the Nebraska Examiner about his health woes, including a recent diagnosis of cancer.

“Recently a friend asked me to record my personal health journey. I was hesitant to do so until I realized it might help others seek the medical help they need.”
