Rep. Don Bacon refuses to call for convicted felon Fortenberry’s resignation

Congressman Don Bacon is still refusing to call for Rep. Jeff Fortenberry’s resignation, despite Fortenberry’s conviction on one count of concealing conduit campaign contributions and two counts of lying to federal agents about illegal campaign donations.

While leaders on both sides of the aisle have called for the disgraced congressman to step down, Bacon is once again defending his colleague who lied about his knowledge of an illegal contribution to his reelection campaign from a billionaire foreign national and could face up to five years in prison on each count.

Bacon has received $5,700 from Fortenberry’s leadership PAC since he launched his first campaign.

Said DCCC Spokesperson Johanna Warshaw: “Once again, Rep. Bacon is refusing to condemn his colleague and campaign donor – despite him being convicted on three felony charges. This kind of behavior has no place in Congress, and Don Bacon should say as much.”
