Press Release: NDP’s Kleeb blasts Sen. Fischer for vote rejecting probe into Jan. 6 Capitol insurrection

Nebraska Democratic Party Chair Jane Kleeb on Friday decried Sen. Deb Fischer’s cowardly vote to reject forming a commission to investigate the Jan. 6 insurrection at the Capitol that saw five people die and 140 police officers injured.

“Deb Fischer proved once again that she is nothing more than a lackey for the Republican Party,” Kleeb said. “The American people deserve to know what happened, but Deb Fischer does as she is told by her GOP overlords — and that is to buy into Trump’s Big Lie that the 2020 election was stolen from him.

“I thank Sen. Ben Sasse for standing up and voting for the measure,” Kleeb said.

Senators voted 54-35 on the House-passed bill, falling short of the 10 GOP votes needed to get it over an initial hurdle.

Senate Republicans were widely expected to reject the legislation after days of publicly and privately warning that they believed the commission would damage them heading into the 2022 midterm election, keeping former President Trump and the attack, where a mob of his supporters breached the building, at the forefront.
