Press release: NDP’s Kleeb lauds President Biden’s vaccination announcement; Asks Gov. Ricketts for plan to vaccinate Nebraska’s teachers

Nebraska Democratic Party Chair Jane Kleeb hailed the announcement by President Joe Biden on Tuesday that the federal government will supply enough COVID-19 vaccine to have every U.S. adult vaccinated by the end of May and that Biden is now classifying teachers as essential workers. Nebraska is one of 20 states that has yet to prioritize teachers to get the COVID shot. Kleeb demands that Gov. Pete Ricketts shows his plan to get vaccines in the arms of Nebraska’s teachers.

“President Biden is fulfilling his promise to fight the pandemic head-on and ramp up vaccine manufacturing and distribution,” Chair Kleeb said. “Meanwhile, Gov. Ricketts must show us his plan to get all of our Nebraska teachers vaccinated. They are essential workers and if Ricketts cannot get the job done then he should step aside and let Biden’s federal vaccine team protect our teachers.”

“Under Ricketts’ failed leadership, Nebraska is one of 20 states that has not prioritized vaccinating teachers,” Kleeb said. “Ricketts has no plan to keep our schools safe. Yet again, Democrats are here to clean up Republicans’ mess.”
