Nebraska Democratic Party, Douglas County Democratic Party, and Lancaster County Democratic Party’s Statement on the Upcoming Omaha and Lincoln City Elections
LINCOLN, NE – The Nebraska Democratic Party Chair Jane Kleeb, Douglas County Democratic Party Chair CJ King, and Lancaster County Democratic Party Chair Hannah Wroblewski issue the following statement regarding the upcoming 2025 Omaha and Lincoln City Elections.
The NDP, DCDP, and LCDP are all in to support our mayoral, city council, and down-ballot candidates. The state and county parties are committing a significant amount of capital in the way of financial, volunteer, and core voting resources to elect strong Democratic candidates to offices in Lincoln and Omaha.
Các NDP is committing at least $100,000 for partisan voter registration, voter guides, and vote-by-mail programs in both Omaha and Lincoln in coordination with the Douglas and Lancaster County Democratic Parties.

The NDP, county parties, and thousands of volunteers across the state made significant strides in electing Democrats across the state. Under Chair Kleeb’s leadership, Democrats elected to office has doubled from 540 Democrats in 2017 to 1,025 in 2024.
Our Democratic state senators will represent the most diverse members we have ever sent to Lincoln, and they will work toward common-sense legislation for Nebraskans. In addition, Nebraska’s second congressional district delivered the presidential electoral vote to the Harris-Walz ticket for the third time. We are very proud to have secured the Blue Dot in 2008, 2020, and now in 2024. The NDP will continue to defend the split electoral vote process that gives voters a direct voice in presidential elections.
In Lincoln, we look forward to maintaining a supermajority on the city council by re-electing all three at-large city council members and a supermajority on the Lincoln School Board by re-electing Democratic board members. In addition, we look forward to supporting our Airport Authority candidate and placing the housing discrimination issue on the Lincoln ballot. The Primary Election for Lincoln will be April 8th and the General Election will be May 6th.
In Omaha, we will work towards finally electing a Democratic mayor as our priority. Omahans are ready to move on from Jean Stothert, as evidenced by the recent ice storm mismanagement. Additionally, candidates are enthusiastic about representing their district for city council, confirmed by the number of candidates currently. We look forward to electing a diverse and responsive slate of city council members. The Primary Election for Omaha will be April 1st and the General Election will be May 13th.
The NDP is committing at least $100K to both the Lincoln and Omaha city elections. The overall plan will consist of core programs focused on voters. Voter registration, vote by mail, voter guides, and beefing up the block captain program will all be building blocks for success in both cities. Working with the Douglas County Democratic Party and the Lancaster County Democratic Party will be the priority in coordinating volunteer canvassing activity, phone banking, outreach events, and other voter contact programs.
Many candidates have already announced their candidacy and more are expected. Our social media platforms will serve as an extension of candidate information and activity. As candidates announce, our website will be updated to reflect the strong and diverse field of candidates for the 2025 city elections.
