Bacon’s deeply unpopular anti-abortion agenda doesn’t have enough support in Nebraska Legislature to overcome filibuster

Much to Rep. Don Bacon’s chagrin, Nebraska Gov. Pete Ricketts was unable to call a special session this week after he failed to muster the votes necessary for a dangerous new abortion ban.

After Kansans turned out in record numbers to protect a woman’s right to make her own health care decisions, Republicans are coming to terms with the fact that their attempts to restrict women’s freedoms are deeply unpopular – even in traditionally red states.

Despite the governor’s failure, Bacon will no doubt stand by his efforts to strip away women’s freedoms, continuing to support:

–Enacting laws like Texas’ extreme six-week abortion ban that put a bounty on anyone who helps a woman get an abortion;

Defunding Planned Parenthood, which would restrict Nebraska women access to basic health care like cancer screenings and birth control.

Said DCCC Spokesperson Johanna Warshaw:

“Don Bacon is so out of touch, his own governor couldn’t convince his own party to pass further government restrictions on women’s reproductive rights in Nebraska. Nebraskans won’t hesitate to defend their freedoms and send Bacon packing this November.”
