Well, we made it to 2020.
It was not an easy path. And President Trump closed out 2019 with an inspiring speech at a rally in Michigan — words that no doubt will be chiseled in granite one day.
We’ll get to that in a minute, but first — for perspective — we need to give deference to memorable words from his predecessors:
“Ninety-nine percent of failures come from people who make excuses.” ― George Washington
“Honesty is the first chapter of the book wisdom.” ― Thomas Jefferson
“We become not a melting pot but a beautiful mosaic. Different people, different beliefs, different yearnings, different hopes, different dreams.” ― Jimmy Carter
“If you’re walking down the right path and you’re willing to keep walking, eventually you’ll make progress” ― Barack Obama
Not to be outdone, Trump let it rip:
“Dishwashers — we did the dishwasher, right? You press it — remember the dishwasher, you’d press it, boom, there’d be like an explosion, five minutes later you open it up, the steam pours out, the dishes. Now, you press it 12 times. Women tell me. Again, you know, they give you four drops of water. And they’re in places where there’s so much water, they don’t know what to do with it. So we just came out with a reg on dishwashers — we’re going back to you. By the way, by the time they press it 10 times, you spend more on water — and electric! Don’t forget. The whole thing is worse because you’re spending all that money on electric. So we’re bringing back standards that are great.”
Happy New Year.

While we’re on the subject, Trump wasted no time kicking off the new year by ordering a top Iranian official killed by a drone strike.
From Esquire’s Charles Pierce:
“So here, as 2020 begins, the president* launches a unilateral military action to kill the second-most important figure in the Iranian government, the man who commanded the forces that the president* previously confused with our allies, the Kurds, whom he previously sold out on the battlefield. So no, I have absolutely no confidence that the American government as it is currently run has the vaguest idea what to do next. … And god only knows what will happen in Iraq as a result of this. This policy is kick-over-the-hornet’s-nest at its worst. Maybe it’s all just to keep John Bolton from testifying to the Senate. That’s as good an explanation as any.”

We’re looking forward to seeing everyone at our State Central Committee (SCC) meeting Jan. 17-19 in Norfolk. The Disabilities Caucus will be featured.
The SCC is the governing body of the NDP. We have four SCC meetings a year, where Democrats gather to conduct the business of the state party.
Democrats and Independents are welcome to attend as guests. Only SCC Members can vote on agenda items.

Must-reading for all from the Bưu điện Washington as we race toward the 2020 Election,
“If you thought the 2016 election was awash in disinformation and lies, get ready: The 2020 election is going to make that affair look like a knitting session. A video that was edited in a monumentally dishonest fashion to make Joe Biden sound racist just circulated all over Twitter. Distressingly, some reporters and people with large Twitter followings tweeted out the video, before others drew their attention to the full context, causing them to backtrack.”
