Nebraskans can’t get a meeting with our congresspeople right now — so on March 15, Governor Tim Walz came to Omaha to lend a megaphone and make sure Washington hears how Trump’s agenda is hurting everyone from farmers to teachers to veterans. While Republicans hole up in Washington so they don’t have to answer to the American people for their reckless policy decisions, Democrats are hitting the road across Nebraska, sharing your stories, and forcing our congressmen to listen.

Republicans can hide behind their fancy desks and cushy congressional benefits all they want. In the meantime, we’ll be making sure that Nebraskans know every single member of our congressional delegation voted for massive cuts to key public services, they voted to make it harder for our veterans to talk to the VA by cutting 70,000 employees (who also happen to be veterans!), and they stood by while Trump all but handed Elon Musk the keys to the White House.

Almost a Town Hall - (dis)Honorable Mentions for Don Bacon and Adrian Smith

On March 25, Don held a “tele town hall” where constituents could call in and listen to him pivot and make excuses. Don at least gave people the opportunity to call in and be muted.

The next day Adrian Smith surprised his constituents with a “town hall” by cold-calling people from a number that is flagged as “possible spam” and filtered by many phones.

These muted town halls are a sorry substitute for actual interactions with their constituents.

April 25 People's Town Hall with Ro Khanna
in Grand Island, NE

300 concerned and energized Nebraskans packed the venue to hear NDP Chair Jane Fleming Kleeb and Congressman Khanna. The audience was diverse, with questions about immigration, our veterans, due process being ignored, and the direction of our country under Trump. Thank you to all who attended!

We also thank all of our party leaders and volunteers for welcoming Representative Khanna. It was such an incredible honor to have him visit our state and step up when Representative Adrian Smith would not.

April 29 People's Town Hall in Geneva, NE

Democrats from at least 6 rural counties (Fillmore, Thayer, Saline, Clay, Adams, and York) came to hear Nebraska Democratic Party Chair and DNC Vice Chair Jane Kleeb speak about the issues facing us and what our party is doing to address those issues. Chair Kleeb clearly and honestly answered questions about immigration, tariffs, taxation, health care, Democratic and Independent candidates, the state of our democracy, and more. After her talk she was happy to stay for individual conversations.

Jane Kleeb’s high energy and command of the issues should inspire us all to stay politically active and make our voices heard. Continue calling your senators, representatives, governor, and other elected persons with your concerns. Share your ideas with friends and family members when political subjects arise. Go to the Nebraska Democratic Party’s website to learn more about how you can contribute to Democratic causes.

Thank you to Kathy Moore Jensen, Nebraska Democratic Party Rural Organizer, for helping in so many ways to make last night’s town hall a success. And special thanks to Jane Kleeb for sharing her time and insights with us.

There has never a better or more important time to be a Democrat,
